OwlCal ("we", "us") is a family organizer: a shared calendar, lists, meal planner, chat, RSVPs, and optional Google Calendar sync. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we protect it. The short version: your family's data belongs to your family. We don't sell it, we don't show ads, and we don't use it to train AI models.
OwlCal is designed so children do not need accounts. A parent or guardian creates and controls child profiles; child profiles have no email address and cannot be contacted. The adult who created the family administers all of its data.
OwlCal includes optional AI features that use Google Gemini to help you manage your family calendar inside the app. Examples include creating events from a photo of a flyer, sports schedule, or ticket; turning plain English into a calendar event; and scanning a list into shopping items.
Where AI features operate on your content, they do so only to provide the feature you asked for. We do not sell your data to AI companies and we do not permit your family's content (or Google user data) to be used to train AI models. AI output can be imperfect; double-check times, dates, and addresses. If a future AI feature would work differently, we will say so clearly and make it optional before it touches your data. OwlCal's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

We only access the minimum data necessary to provide OwlCal's family organizer features. Your Google data is never sold, shared for advertising, used to train generalized AI/ML models, or used for any purpose other than OwlCal's core functionality. We store encrypted OAuth tokens so sync can continue until you disconnect.
Limited Use: Google user data obtained via restricted or sensitive scopes is used only to provide or improve user-facing features that are prominent in OwlCal's user interface (family calendar sync). We do not transfer Google user data to third parties except as necessary to provide/improve those features, comply with applicable laws, or as part of a merger/acquisition with notice. We do not use Google user data for serving advertisements. We do not allow humans to read Google user data unless we have your affirmative agreement for specific messages, it is necessary for security/compliance, or the data is aggregated and anonymized for internal operations.
Optional AI features powered by Google Gemini are separate from Google Calendar sync. We do not send your Google Calendar data to Gemini unless you explicitly use an AI feature on content you choose. See AI Transparency.
You can disconnect Google at any time in Family → Google Calendar. That deletes stored tokens and stops sync for that account. You can also revoke OwlCal under your Google Account permissions.
Each provider processes data only as needed to provide their service.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We disclose data only: within your family as the product is designed to do; to the service providers above; or if required by law.
Your data is kept while your family account is active. Family admins can delete members, events, lists, and other content at any time, and deleting a family removes its data. To request full account deletion or a copy of your data, email support@getsignout.com and we will complete the request within 30 days.
Depending on where you live (e.g., California, EU/EEA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us and we will honor applicable rights.
OwlCal does not use advertising cookies or cross-site trackers. We use your browser's local storage for the essentials of running the app: your sign-in session, your theme and text-size preferences, and, if you arrived through a friend's invite link, the referral code that credits them. That is the whole list.
Every account holder can share a personal invite link. If someone signs up after opening your link, we record that the signup came from your code so we can show you (and our administrators) how many people joined from your invite. The person who signs up is never shown to other users beyond that count, and referral data is not shared with anyone outside OwlCal.
Reminders are optional. You choose whose events you get notified about, and you can turn them off at any time in your device settings or by clearing your selections in the app. Disabling notifications removes nothing but the reminders.
Where GDPR applies, we process your data to perform our contract with you (running your family's organizer), with your consent (push notifications, optional features), and for our legitimate interests (keeping the service secure and reliable). You may withdraw consent at any time.
Our infrastructure runs in the United States (AWS us-east-1). If you use OwlCal from outside the US, your data is processed in the US with the safeguards described in this policy.
California residents may request access to, deletion of, or a copy of their personal information, and may ask what categories we collect (identifiers, family content, and device push tokens, as described above). We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not use sensitive personal information beyond what the service requires. To exercise any right, email support@getsignout.com; we will verify and respond within the legally required window.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Child profiles are created and controlled entirely by a parent or guardian, contain only what the parent enters (a name and a color), and have no login, email, or direct communication. A parent can edit or delete a child profile at any time. If you believe a child has created an account themselves, contact us and we will remove it.
If we ever discover a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify affected families and the relevant authorities as required by law, explain what happened in plain language, and tell you what we are doing about it.
If we change this policy materially, we will update the date above and notify you in the app.
